Psalms — Chapter 76

HAEC MUTATIO DEXTERAE EXCELSI. Lapide: Psalm 76 — "This is the change of the right hand of the Most High." Lapide: the soul in desolation (vv.2-10: "Will God cast off forever?") arrives at the turning point: "this is the change of the right hand of the Most High" — the apparent abandonment is not rejection but a change (mutatio) worked by God's own hand. Lapide: the dark night, the apparent withdrawal of consolation, is itself a form of divine activity — God is changing the soul, not abandoning it. The right hand (dextera Excelsi) = God's power working precisely through the experience of weakness.
