Psalms — Chapter 66

DEUS MISEREATUR NOSTRI ET BENEDICAT NOBIS. Lapide: Psalm 66 — "May God have mercy on us and bless us: may He cause the light of His countenance to shine upon us." The Aaronic blessing (Nu. 6:24-26) in psalm form. Lapide: "et misereatur nostri" — mercy and blessing together: mercy for sin, blessing for the just. The "light of his countenance" = the beatific vision, now given by partial anticipation in prayer, given fully in heaven. Lapide: this psalm is a model for intercession — praying for the whole people.
