Psalms — Chapter 64

TE DECET HYMNUS DEUS IN SION. Lapide: Psalm 64 — "A hymn, O God, becometh Thee in Sion." Lapide: "te decet" — it is FITTING for Thee: praise is not arbitrary but ontologically appropriate to God's nature. "And a vow shall be paid to Thee in Jerusalem." Lapide: the conjunction of hymn (praise) and vow (promise): the soul that praises God commits itself to the fulfillment of its baptismal promises. Praise and obligation are inseparable.
