Psalms — Chapter 61

NONNE DEO SUBIECTA ERIT ANIMA MEA. Lapide: Psalm 61 — "Shall not my soul be subject to God? For from Him is my salvation." Lapide: the soul's subjection (subiecta) to God is not servitude but the proper order of being — the creature rightly ordered to the Creator. The submission is simultaneously the source of salvation: from this subjection comes (ex ipso) salvation. Lapide: "ipse Deus meus et salutare meum" (v.2: He is my God and my Saviour) — the double identification: God as the soul's proper object AND as its Saviour.
