Psalms — Chapter 26

DOMINUS ILLUMINATIO MEA ET SALUS MEA. Lapide: Psalm 26 — "The Lord is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear? The Lord is the protector of my life: of whom shall I be afraid?" One of the most beloved confessional verses in the Psalter. Lapide: the three divine attributes — light (illuminatio), salvation (salus), protector of life (protector vitae) — correspond to the three theological virtues: faith (light), hope (salvation), charity (life's protector). The two rhetorical questions ("whom shall I fear? of whom shall I be afraid?") express the absolute confidence of the soul that has God.
