Psalms — Chapter 122

AD TE LEVAVI OCULOS MEOS. Lapide: Psalm 122 — "To Thee have I lifted up my eyes, who dwellest in heaven." The posture of prayer: the soul's gaze fixed on the heavenly God. Lapide: "sicut oculi servorum in manibus dominorum suorum" (v.2) — as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters. The image of attentive service: watching the master's hands for the slightest gesture of command or invitation. Lapide: this is the model of contemplative attentiveness to God's will.
