EXSURGE GLORIA MEA EXSURGE PSALTERIUM ET CITHARA. Lapide: Psalm 107 — "Arise, O my glory: arise, psaltery and harp." The soul's instruments of praise — the psaltery (spiritual understanding) and harp (bodily voice and action). Lapide: the two together = the integration of interior and exterior praise. The soul that sings only with the lips without understanding is half-mute; the soul that understands without giving voice leaves creation's praise incomplete.
