CONFITEMINI DOMINO QUONIAM BONUS. Lapide: Psalm 105 — "Praise ye the Lord, for He is good: for His mercy endureth forever." The great refrain of the Psalter (cf. Ps. 135; 1 Chron. 16:34; 2 Chron. 7:3; Ezra 3:11). Lapide: "quoniam bonus" — the reason for praise is not what God has done but what He IS: His goodness (bonitas) is the ground of all gratitude and praise. "Et misericordia eius in saeculum" — His mercy endures unto the age: permanence that outlasts every historical change.
