QUONIAM ECCE PECCATORES INTENDERUNT ARCUM. Lapide: Psalm 10 — "For lo, the wicked have bent their bow: they have prepared their arrows in the quiver." The image of the wicked as archers lying in ambush. Lapide: the "arrows" of the wicked = their words (detraction, slander), their actions (persecution), their counsels (temptation). Lapide: "the just man" (v.3: "what has he done") is helpless against such attacks by natural means — his only resource is to "flee to the mountain" (v.1: God's protection).
