Psalms — Chapter 11

SALVUM ME FAC DOMINE QUONIAM DEFECIT SANCTUS. Lapide: Psalm 11 — "Save me, O Lord, for there is now no saint: truths are decayed from among the children of men." Lapide: the lament that saints are rare and truth has declined — applicable to every age of the Church but especially to times of cultural and moral collapse. Lapide: "Vana locuti sunt unusquisque ad proximum suum" (v.3: "They have spoken vain things every one to his neighbor") — the corruption of speech as a symptom of moral decline.
