Psalms — Chapter 91

BONUM EST CONFITERI DOMINO. Lapide: Psalm 91 — the Sabbath psalm. "It is good to give praise to the Lord: and to sing to Thy name, O Most High." Lapide: "Bonum est" — it is GOOD (morally excellent, ontologically fitting) to praise God. The divine praise is not merely pleasant or beneficial for the soul (though it is both) but ontologically appropriate: it is the creature's proper response to the Creator. Lapide: "To confess" (confiteri) = to praise; the same word means both praise and acknowledgment of sin — both are forms of truth-telling before God.
