BENEDIXISTI DOMINE TERRAM TUAM. Lapide: Psalm 84 — "Thou hast blessed Thy land, O Lord: Thou hast turned away the captivity of Jacob." Lapide: literally the return from Babylonian exile; allegorically the Incarnation as God's supreme blessing upon the earth — "the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us" (Jn. 1:14). The land blessed = the human nature assumed by the Son of God.
