Psalms — Chapter 68
SALVUM ME FAC DEUS QUONIAM INTRAVERUNT AQUAE USQUE AD ANIMAM MEAM. Lapide: Psalm 68 — the great Passion psalm (second after Ps. 21). "Save me, O God: for the waters are come in even unto my soul." Lapide: the waters of tribulation and death reaching the soul = Christ in the Passion, overwhelmed by the torrent of human sin He bore. The psalm is cited repeatedly in the New Testament as fulfilled in the Passion (vv.5,9,21-22 in the Gospels; v.26 in Acts 1:20; vv.22-24 in Rom. 11:9-10).
