Psalms — Chapter 36

DELECTARE IN DOMINO. Lapide: Psalm 36 — "Delight in the Lord, and He will give thee the requests of thy heart." Lapide: "delectare in Domino" — to delight in God is the supreme act of the theological virtue of love. When the will's deepest delight is God Himself, the requests of the heart (which are now ordered to God) are identical with what God wills, and so they are always granted. Augustine's great principle: "Love and do what you will" — when love is properly ordered to God, the will spontaneously wills what God wills.
