Psalms — Chapter 28
VOX DOMINI SUPER AQUAS. Lapide: Psalm 28 — the great theophany psalm. "The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of majesty hath thundered, the Lord is upon many waters." The "voice of the Lord" (Vulgate: seven times in vv.3-9) = the thunder. Lapide gives a natural theology of thunder: the overwhelming power of the storm is a visible parable of divine omnipotence. Lapide: "vox Domini" is also the divine Word — the eternal Son — spoken over the primordial waters (Gen. 1:2), spoken at Christ's baptism (Mt. 3:17), and spoken in Scripture and Tradition.
