Psalms — Chapter 22

DOMINUS REGIT ME ET NIHIL MIHI DEERIT. Lapide: Psalm 22 (Vulgate) — the Good Shepherd Psalm. "The Lord rules me and nothing shall be wanting to me." This verse is the complete summary of Christian confidence in Providence. Lapide: "regit" — the Lord does not merely assist or advise, He RULES (regit): He is the active shepherd, director, and governor of the soul. "Nihil mihi deerit" — nothing shall be lacking to me. Lapide: this is not a promise of material prosperity but of the sufficiency of grace. Everything the soul truly needs (not necessarily desires) shall be provided by the divine Shepherd.
