ERIPE ME DOMINE AB HOMINE MALO. Lapide: Psalm 139 — "Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: rescue me from the unjust man." Lapide: literally a prayer of David against Saul or Achitophel; allegorically the prayer of Christ against the devil and the Sanhedrin; tropologically the prayer of every Christian against persecutors and temptation. Lapide: the "evil man" (homo malus) = primarily the devil, whose instrument human persecutors become.
