Psalms — Chapter 135
CONFITEMINI DOMINO QUONIAM BONUS. Lapide: Psalm 135 — the great litany of divine mercy. Each verse ends with "quoniam in aeternum misericordia eius" (for His mercy endureth forever). Twenty-six verses: 26 times the divine mercy is proclaimed eternal. Lapide: the repetition is not literary tedium but theological insistence — the eternal mercy of God is the ground of all history, all creation, all redemption. The structure (creation in vv.5-9, Exodus in vv.10-16, conquest in vv.17-22, and present care in vv.23-25) shows that divine mercy spans every event of salvation history.
