Psalms — Chapter 133

BENEDICITE DOMINUM OMNES SERVI DOMINI. Lapide: Psalm 133 — the last of the Gradual Psalms; the evening prayer at the Temple. "Praise ye the Lord, all ye servants of the Lord: who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God." Lapide: the servants (servi) = the Levites and priests who minister through the night in the Temple; allegorically = the monks and nuns who keep the night Office; tropologically = all the faithful who pray before sleep. "Benedicite Dominum" — bless the Lord as the last act of the day, entrusting the night to His care.
