SURGE DOMINE IN REQUIEM TUAM. Lapide: Psalm 131 — "Arise, O Lord, into Thy resting place: Thou and the Ark, which Thou hast sanctified." The prayer for the Ark's installation in the Temple. Lapide: "Surge Domine" = the Resurrection of Christ ("Arise, Lord" from the tomb). The "Ark which Thou hast sanctified" = the Blessed Virgin Mary, who as the Ark contained the true presence of God incarnate. Lapide: Mary as the New Ark is one of the most ancient Mariological types, rooted in this psalm. The "resting place" (requiem) = the womb of Mary, the Church, and ultimately heaven.
