Joshua — Chapter 14

Lapide: Caleb at 85 asks for Hebron — \"the Lord said he would give it me\" (Num. 14); he is still as strong as the day Moses sent him. Lapide praises Caleb's fidelity and strength in old age: he was 40 when he brought back a faithful report; now 85 he still claims God's promise and drives out the giants.

Lapide: Caleb received Hebron as his inheritance \"because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.\" Lapide: model of unwavering fidelity rewarded; Joshua blesses Caleb. Hebron = formerly \"Cariatharbe,\" the city of Arba the greatest of the giants.
