The wise woman of Abel-Beth-Maacah threw the head of Sheba over the wall to Joab. Lapide praises her prudence: she saved her whole city by the sacrifice of one guilty man; Joab's mercy in sparing the multitude while punishing the leader of sedition is the rule of righteous princes.
