Ahaz walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and made his son pass through fire, according to the idols of the nations. Lapide: The sin of Ahaz in passing his son through fire to Moloch was the most abominable of idolatries. Ahaz further sent to the king of Assyria for help against Israel and Syria — a sign of complete want of faith. His removing the brazen sea and sundry vessels from the temple to please the king of Assyria showed how entirely political considerations had displaced the worship of God.
