2 Chronicles — Chapter 7
Verse 2
MAJESTAS — Hebrew cabod, i.e., 'glory,' specifically the luminous cloud that represents and manifests the invisible majesty and glory of God. The same Shekinah that filled the Tabernacle now fills the Temple.
Verse 3
OMNES FILII ISRAEL VIDEBANT DESCENDENTEM IGNEM — the fire from heaven devouring the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord upon the house; all fell prostrate and worshipped saying, \"Confitemini Domino quoniam in aeternum misericordia ejus.\" The dedication of the Temple is complete.
Verse 14
God's promise to Solomon: \"SI CONVERSUS FUERIT POPULUS MEUS... DEPRECATUS ME FUERIT ET EXQUISIERIT FACIEM MEAM ET EGERIT POENITENTIAM — et ego exaudiam de caelo et propitius ero peccatis eorum et sanabo terram eorum.\" Lapide: the heart of the entire book — prayer, humility, and conversion bring divine healing.
Verse 16
ELEGI ENIM ET SANCTIFICAVI LOCUM ISTUM UT SIT NOMEN MEUM IBI IN SEMPITERNUM — God consecrates the Temple as His permanent dwelling of Name and Presence. \"And my eyes and my heart shall be there always.\"
