CONFORTATUS JOIADA — Lapide: Joiada was a man of great soul and virtue, who restored the royal line to the throne; he lived 130 years. He argues at length that Joiada was indeed the High Priest (summus Pontifex), since Scripture calls him \"prince of the priests,\" and he anointed the king — a function belonging to the High Priest alone.

ET IMPOSUERUNT EI DIADEMA ET TESTIMONIUM — Joash crowned and the Law placed in his hand. The \"testimonium\" (Douay: \"testimony\") is the written Law, placed in the king's hand at his anointing as a sign that his authority is under and for the Law of God.
