Verse 13

So Saul died for his iniquities, because he transgressed the commandment of the Lord, which he had commanded, and kept it not: and moreover consulted also a witch. Lapide: The deep root of Saul's ruin was his distrust of God, whom he had offended by disobedience, so he placed his trust in the devil through the Witch of Endor.

Verse 14

And trusted not in the Lord: therefore He slew him, and transferred his kingdom to David the son of Isai. — God's governance: sin leads to rejection; the kingdom is transferred by divine decree. Lapide cross-references the last chapter of 1 Samuel.
