Psalms — Chapter 51
QUID GLORIARIS IN MALITIA. Lapide: Psalm 51 — addressed (in the title) to the treacherous Doeg the Edomite who betrayed the priests of Nob to Saul (1 Sam. 22). Lapide: literally against Doeg; tropologically against all who boast of their wickedness and use the tongue as a weapon. "Lingua tua sicut novacula acuta" (v.4) — the tongue sharp as a razor: the destructive power of lying, detraction, and slander. Lapide gives a full excursus on the sins of the tongue.
