Psalms — Chapter 30
IN MANUS TUAS COMMENDO SPIRITUM MEUM. Lapide: Psalm 30 — "Into Thy hands I commend my spirit." Christ's last words on the Cross (Lk. 23:46). Lapide: David used these words as a prayer before sleep; Christ uses them as a prayer in death. The perfect act of entrustment: the soul handed over completely to God. Lapide: this is the model of a holy death — the final act of faith and love that commends the soul into God's hands. The Church uses this verse in the prayer for the dying (the Commendation of a Soul).
