Psalms — Chapter 146

QUI SANAT CONTRITOS CORDE. Lapide: Psalm 146 — "Who healeth the broken of heart, and bindeth up their bruises." The divine Physician of the soul. Lapide: "contriti corde" — the broken-hearted: those crushed by grief, sin, failure, loss. Christ identifies Himself as the healer of broken hearts (Is. 61:1, cited in Lk. 4:18: "He hath sent Me to heal the broken-hearted"). The Church's ministry of consolation — especially through the sacrament of Penance and the pastoral care of souls — is the continuation of this divine healing.
