Psalms — Chapter 13

DIXIT INSIPIENS IN CORDE SUO NON EST DEUS. Lapide: Psalm 13 — "The fool hath said in his heart: There is no God." Paul quotes vv.1-3 in Rom. 3:10-12 as demonstrating universal sinfulness. Lapide: the "fool" (insipiens) = not the intellectual atheist primarily but the practical atheist — the man who LIVES as though God does not exist, regardless of what he professes with his lips. Lapide: "in corde suo" — in his HEART, not with his mouth. Practical atheism is more widespread and more dangerous than theoretical atheism.
