Psalms — Chapter 102
BENEDIC ANIMA MEA DOMINO. Lapide: Psalm 102 — the great mercy psalm. "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and let all that is within me bless His holy name." Lapide: the soul is commanded by the psalmist (David speaking to himself) to bless God — all its faculties, all its interior parts (memory, intellect, will, imagination, affections). The wholeness of the blessing demanded: nothing withheld from God's praise. "Et noli oblivisci omnes retributiones eius" (v.2) — forget not all His benefits: ingratitude is the root of sin; the remembrance of God's benefits is the root of praise.
