Nahum
À Lapide reads Nahum's oracle against Nineveh as a figure of divine judgment upon all apostasy, and expounds the opening proclamation — 'God is patient and great in power and will not cleanse the wicked' — as a synthesis of the divine attributes of mercy and justice. The vivid battle imagery is treated both literally as historical prophecy and typologically as the Church's victory over her enemies.
