Joshua — Chapter 21

Verse 1

Lapide: The Levites dispersed through all the tribes of Israel — Jacob's curse on Levi (Gen. 49) transformed by God into blessing; the Levitical colleges scattered through all Canaan became seminaries of religion and piety, whence neighbouring cities received the seeds of heavenly doctrine and holiness. S. Chrysostomus (Hom. 59 ad Populum): \"Visit monasteries; there is nothing there filled with enticement or disturbance; they are the quietest harbours.\"

Verse 41

Lapide: \"The Lord gave Israel all the land which He swore to give to their fathers: and they possessed it and dwelt in it... Not one word of all His good promises which He had spoken by Moses failed.\" Lapide: God's faithfulness is absolute; as all His promises of good were fulfilled, so too shall all His threats of punishment be fulfilled if the covenant is broken.
