Jeremiah — Chapter 52

Synopsis: Historical appendix (parallel to 2 Kgs.24-25 and 2 Chr.36): fall of Jerusalem, Zedekiah's fate, destruction of the Temple, carrying off of the Temple vessels, execution of the priests. Lapide notes this is not written by Jeremiah himself but added by Baruch as a confirmation of all Jeremiah's prophecies.

Verse 12

Now in the tenth day of the fifth month, the same is the nineteenth year of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, Nabuzardan the general of the army, who stood before the king of Babylon, came into Jerusalem. The precise date of the Temple's destruction preserved — showing the exactness with which Scripture records these epochal events. Lapide compares the destruction of the First Temple with the eventual destruction of the Second by Titus, on the same date (9 Av).
