Jeremiah — Chapter 42
Synopsis: Johanan and the princes ask Jeremiah whether to remain in Judaea or flee to Egypt. Jeremiah's answer after 10 days: remain in the land, God will protect you; if you go to Egypt, you will perish there. They refuse to obey.
Verse 7
And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the Lord came to Jeremias. The ten-day delay before God's word comes = Lapide's point that God often delays answers to prayer to test the petitioner's perseverance and sincerity. Those who waited only ten days and then acted impatiently would have received no answer.
