Jeremiah — Chapter 21
Synopsis: Zedekiah consults Jeremiah during the Chaldean siege; Jeremiah predicts the city will fall. He sets before the people the 'two ways': surrender and live; resist and die.
Verse 8
And to this people thou shalt say: Thus saith the Lord: Behold I set before your face the way of life, and the way of death. The 'two ways' — applied by the Fathers to baptismal catechesis (the Didache) and to the universal moral choice confronting every human being. Lapide: Christ restates this in Matt.7:13-14 ('two gates, two ways'). The way of life = submission to God's will; the way of death = trusting in self.
