Jeremiah — Chapter 19

Synopsis: Jeremiah takes a clay flask to Tophet and smashes it before the elders: as the flask cannot be remade, so God will smash Jerusalem unrepairably. Lapide: the sign-acts (gestural prophecies) of Jeremiah demonstrate that preaching alone is insufficient — the prophet must sometimes embody his message physically.
