Habakkuk

In Habakkuk, à Lapide expounds the prophet's bold dialogue with God about the prosperity of the wicked as a model of contemplative prayer and theological inquiry. The oracle 'the just man shall live by his faith' (Hab. 2:4) — cited three times in the New Testament — receives extended treatment as the foundation of the doctrine of justification. The great theophany of chapter 3 is read as a vision of the Incarnate Christ.
