Deuteronomy — Chapter 24
Verse 1
If a man take a wife, and she find not favour in his eyes, he shall write a bill of divorce, and shall give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. Moses permitted the bill of divorce because of the hardness of the people's hearts, as Christ teaches (Matt. 19:8). Lapide: This Mosaic dispensation is entirely abrogated by Christ, Who restored the original law of the indissolubility of marriage (Gen. 2:24): 'What God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.'
