2 Chronicles — Chapter 25

Verse 7

NE EGREDIATUR TECUM EXERCITUS ISRAEL — NON EST ENIM DOMINUS CUM ISRAEL — the Man of God (Lapide: probably Amos, according to the Hebrew Seder Olam) forbids Amazias to use the mercenaries from Israel: \"For God is not with Israel.\" Lesson for Christian princes: do not seek the military aid of heretics, Turks, or other infidels, lest God be their enemy as He was with Jehoshaphat.

Verse 15

CUR ADORASTI DEOS QUI NON LIBERAVERUNT POPULUM SUUM DE MANU TUA? — Lapide quotes Josephus at length on the prophet's rebuke of Amazias: why do you worship gods who could not protect their own worshippers from your hand? The king threatened the prophet with death; the prophet answered that he knew God had determined to destroy him.
