1 Samuel — Chapter 7

Samuel calls all Israel to return to the Lord with all their heart, put away foreign gods, and direct their heart to the Lord alone. Lapide: the mark of a true judge and prophet — he reforms the people interiorly before any external victory.

Samuel cried to the Lord for Israel while offering a holocaust, and the Lord thundered with a great thunder upon the Philistines and routed them. This fulfils Anna's prophecy (2:10): \"Upon them shall he thunder in heaven.\" Lapide: God fought for Israel when Samuel prayed.
