Douay-Rheims — Annotations
The Douay-Rheims is the first complete English Catholic Bible translation, produced by English scholars in exile. The New Testament was published at Rheims in 1582; the Old Testament at Douai in 1609. Each book was accompanied by extensive marginal and chapter annotations explaining the text, defending Catholic doctrine, and offering patristic commentary. These annotations are preserved here verbatim, with all archaic spelling intact.
